Sheriff Forced to Comply With Public Information Request
Grants Pass, OR -- Sheriff Daniel relented under pressure Tuesday evening and faxed the public information requested (escaped inmates) to Taft. This story was posted on StrobeZone as Sheriff Refuses Press Release to Investigative Reporter 2-15-02. A deputy in the sheriff’s administration office told Taft apparently the sheriff was not going to allow him to receive the press releases requested. The sheriff quickly changed his mind after the delivery of a public information request ORS 192.420 handed to Police Clerk Stephen Vorberg on Friday, Feb. 15th. Daniel has now set a precedent and would be ill advised to withhold any future public information from the Oregon Observer and StrobeZone.
This incident appears to show a childish display of arrogance in Daniels’ temperament by attempting to withhold public information from Taft. Perhaps Daniel has learned something of value from this event and will behave in an adult manner for the remainder of his term as sheriff.
